East Side Tunnel Rehabilitation

AK Industrial Services removed deteriorating gunnite from the tunnel arch, as well as patches from side walls. AKIS completed the tunnel gunnite hydrodemolition proficiently with our robot and handlances.

The team used a robot with vertical capabilities to remove the gunnite on the ceiling of the tunnel. Then, the team switched to hand lances for a more targeted application on the tunnel walls. Throughout the process, the AK team also collected, treated, and disposed of the water used in the gunnite hydrodemolition.

The team treated the water in the EcoClear, a water treatment system, which reduces the suspended solids to such an extent that the team, with approval from the water department, was able to dispose of the water via storm drains.
