Commonwealth Ave. Bridge over I90

The contractor had several strip seal bridge joints encased in elastomeric concrete that were temporarily installed for phase construction. The contractor removed the bridge joints with the elastomeric concrete still attached. They needed to remove the elastomeric concrete, without damaging the steel, so that the joints could be installed permanently. Due to the physical qualities of the elastomeric concrete, using conventional chipping guns was difficult and time consuming.

AK Industrial Services performed handheld hydrodemolition of the elastomeric concrete. Not only did the use of hydro-demolition save the steel, but the removal was also performed considerably faster than conventional chipping. AKIS using handheld hydrodemolition saved the contractor time and money.
