Project Overview

AK Industrial Services was contracted to remove deteriorating gunnite from the tunnel arch, as well as remove patches from side walls. AKIS was able to complete the tunnel gunnite hydrodemolition proficiently with our robot as well as the handlances.
The team used a robot with vertical capabilities on the ceiling of the tunnel to remove the gunnite. Then, the team switched to hand lances for a more targeted application on the tunnel walls. Throughout the process, the AK team also collected, treated, and disposed of the water used in the gunnite hydrodemolition.
The water was treated in the EcoClear, a water treatment system, which reduces the suspended solids to such an extent that the team, with approval from the water department, was able to dispose of the water via storm drains.
