The town of Claremont hired a general contractor (GC) to remove 6″ of concrete from the face of the existing dam and replace it with new concrete. The GC contracted AK Industrial Services to perform the hydrodemolition, which would remove the 6″ of concrete and prepare the surface for the new layer.
Given the dam’s steep face and limited space at the base, AK needed to develop an efficient method for performing the work from the top. The team fabricated a custom frame system to support the hydrodemolition equipment. AK then attached the frame to an excavator bucket for mobility.
Using ultra-high-pressure pumps, AK powered the hydrodemolition as the excavator moved the frame along the dam. This approach allowed the team to complete the hydrodemolition entirely from the top. Afterward, the GC placed the new concrete on the prepared surface.
